About & FAQ
Where does your online handle originate from?
It’s a nickname. People typically call me Angle or Angie, feel free to use either one. What are your pronouns?
I do prefer they/them, but she/her is also fine.Where are you from & what is your education?
I live in Studio City, Los Angeles CA and I went to a local college for general studies. I am mostly self taught other than that. What medium & tools do you work with?
Predominantly, I am a digital artist, using an iPad Pro and Procreate as my main program. My default canvas is set to 3300 x 5100px at 300 DPI. The brushes used in my works can be found hereWhen did you start creating?
I've been drawing since childhood, but my most active periods have been between 2018-2020 and again from 2024 to present. How did you develop your style?
Style is an ever-evolving journey. A blend of inspiration, emotion, intuition, and often shortcuts. For me, it shifts constantly, sometimes even day by day. I experiment a LOT, studying techniques and reshaping them to suit my tastes. Growth tends to come most naturally when I’m creating from a place of personal passion. What is your step by step art process like?
It’s never linear. Since I was young, I liked free doodling with pens and ink. That’s translated to the work I enjoy doing still to this day.1. Inspiration & Reference
I gather atmospheric references to shape the mood and direction. From there, I’ll draft a very rough sketch- not a first rendition, but a loose framework, the bones that support what’s to come.2. Linework & Lighting
Next comes the lineart, often bold and weighty. At this stage, I usually start mapping out lighting, blocking in the deepest shadows with black to anchor contrast and form early on.3. Color Theory
If I decide to color, I’ll lay down masks- separating skin, hair, clothing, and other elements. This allows me to apply overlays and textures selectively and maintain flexibility in adjustments.4. Shading & Rendering
Then begins the deeper work: shading, color theory, refining. My approach to color is often "wing it”, letting mood guide the palette. I fine-tune everything in the end with curve adjustments and color balancing.5. Final Review
I always give a piece space to breathe- waiting a day or two before sharing. Fresh eyes can reveal small flaws or areas to strengthen, giving me the clarity to either finish with more confidence or accept it for what it is at this point in time. How do you stay consistent and motivated enough to finish what you started?
Staying focused comes from staying connected to what I love about the work. When motivation dips, I pivot, and return when I’m ready. Perhaps that means moving to a different section of the same piece, doing something “out of order”, or working on something else. It’s less about rigid discipline and more about sustained passion.Which part of your work do you enjoy the most?
It’s easy for me to get lost in little details. The Inking/lineart phase is my favorite. At that point, the two-tone contrast of blacks and whites are very pleasing to look at in my opinion.Which part of your work do you find challenging or dislike?
What frustrates me most is the limited time I have to fully dedicate to creating. On top of that, the coloring process has always been a personal challenge. Color theory, in particular, has been a stumbling block since the beginning.Do you have any tips or tricks for
[insert art subject here]?
We all want the secret to getting better, don’t we? But when it comes to honing any skill, the key lies in understanding how you process information- how you learn. That self-awareness doesn’t necessarily make every step of the journey instantly easier, but it can make it far less frustrating. Figure out where you lie on the
VARK modelThen familiarize yourself with the tools available to you. Procreate has a series of videos that anyone using the app should take a look at.Grasp an understanding of the basics. Anatomy, perspective, composition, lighting & shading. Devote time to studies of each subject. Drawing from life is what people have been doing for forever, but CTRLPaint is a great resource. Some other neat websites for poses and exercises are line-of-action, trueref, and posemaniacsSeeking feedback and criticism helps as well, not only with technical learning but motivation too. Join peer review groups! How do you overcome creative blocks?
Creative blocks can be misunderstood as the absence of creativity- as if it has vanished, gone missing, or somehow no longer a part of you. That perception alone can deepen the very feelings that caused the block in the first place: exhaustion, self-doubt, inadequacy, failure… or something harder to name.I went through a very long stretch where I didn’t create anything at all. What helped me move through it was changing how I viewed the block itself- not as an almost impassable barrier, but as a sign to shift my direction and perspective. I stopped trying to force myself through it, which in the past only made things worse. Instead, I began exploring not only other facets of life, but other styles of art I always admired. If I could offer any advice, it would be this: try something new. Not just in art, but anywhere. Creativity doesn’t exist in a vacuum- it flows through your thoughts, habits, and even the unexpected detours. Everyone has their own rhythm of thought and expression, and no one else can tell you how to navigate it. For me, finding new hobbies or simply drawing something outside my norm helped breathe life back into the process.Who and what inspires you?
The people in my life, the experiences I’m privileged to be a part of, and many other incredible artists I’ve encountered along the way. Take a moment to browse through my follow lists across all medias- they’re filled with so many individuals who continue to influence and move me.Can I get your art tattooed?
Yes! Absolutely! And if the tattoo artist requires formal permission, feel free to contact me.Can I study and take inspiration from your art?
I am entirely flattered, and would never tell anyone no. We all learn from one another and mishmash/curate to our own tastes. Just make sure you don’t resort to tracing and don’t limit yourself to one point of learning material. It can become a crutch, halting your journey forward. Branch out, look at realism, surrealism, impressionist, etc. Absorb from as many different sources as possible! Are you working on any upcoming projects?
Yes, I am currently working on a comic series, “The Devil is a Handsome Man”, a mystery-drama-romance series set in a world inhabited by demons. All updates are available on PatreonWhy is your comic only available on Patreon and not [anywhere else]?
I need to be able to create the comic on a flexible schedule. Additionally, I'm now able to present the story and visuals without censorship, while the platform responsibly communicates that the content includes adult (18+) themes.
